Director named

Mark Herbert Sr. was named a life director of the National Association of Home Builders at the association's 2009 spring board of directors meeting in Washington, D.C. Herbert is the owner of Herbert Homes Inc. in Evans and has been in the construction industry for more than 35 years. In 2007, he was made a senior life director of the Builders Association of Metro Augusta Inc. after having satisfied the 20-year attendance requirement. Herbert has served as president of the Builders Association of Metro Augusta twice and as state president of the Homebuilders Association of Georgia. He has served on numerous local, state and national committees and is the vice chairman of the state BPAC Trustee Committee.

Elected to board

Harlem City Council member John Thigpen was elected to the board of directors of the Georgia Municipal Association during its annual meeting June 23 in Savannah. Thigpen will serve as president of District 7, which includes cities in Columbia, Wilkes, Lincoln, Richmond, Burke, Jenkins, Jefferson, Washington, Glascock, Hancock, Warren and McDuffie counties.

Hotel honored

Kanta K.R. Kondur, the owner and general manager of the Best Western Evans Hotel, 452 Park West Drive, Grovetown, announced that her hotel has received the Best Western Director's Award for Outstanding Quality for 2009, the second year in a row it has won the award.
